Crux Galerie presents the group exhibition Blanc: The bakery project, which emerged from discussions between Ivan Argote and Anestis Ioannou during the EMST Mentorship programme (2025) of the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The programme aimed to foster opportunities for long-term exchange and dialogue between emerging Greek and accomplished international contemporary visual artists.

The exhibition takes place in the half-empty space of a family-run bakery that recently went out of business. The conversations between the two artists were initiated in that very space, which hosts Ioannou’s studio, during that period of transition, and the current project is the result of these. The bakery is now in a liminal state, after his father and grandfather’s business ran a full 47-year circle. On this occasion, selected artists are invited to occupy the space during this time of transition, on the verge of something new and unknown.

The works nod on themes of survival, resilience and memory. How do we live with ourselves, our traumas, and our shifting identities, and how do we relate to each other and the spaces we inhabit? This is an ephemeral exhibition, a farewell to the shifting landscape of a city that surrenders itself to a new conformity, enforced by global trends, gentrification, and consumerism.

The conversation between the two artists on these themes already resulted in the publication “A poem for three paintings”, supported by Ivan Argote. A second publication will be produced after the exhibition, documenting the space again, before its next unknown transformation
